Kia's PV7 Electric Van Spotted, Confirms Massive Size and Ambitious Market Strategy

Kia's forthcoming PV7 electric van has been sighted in public testing, confirming its significantly larger footprint compared to the already popular PV5, signaling an aggressive expansion in the electric commercial vehicle market. The PV7, slated for a 2027 market launch, is set to become the biggest offering within Kia's innovative "Platform Beyond Vehicle" (PBV) ecosystem, boasting the largest cargo space in the lineup and an impressive 1300 kg payload capacity.

This larger model builds on the substantial success of the midsize PV5, which, since its 2025 debut, has rapidly captured significant market share, accounting for 9% of light commercial electric vehicle (eLCV) sales in Europe and 17.4% in the UK during the first quarter of 2026. The PV7's concept, first unveiled at CES 2024, measures 5,270 mm in length, 2,065 mm in width, and 2,120 mm in height, with a 3,390 mm wheelbase, dwarfing the PV5's dimensions and positioning it firmly in the large-format commercial class.

The introduction of the PV7 underscores Kia's ambitious PBV strategy, which aims to transcend traditional vehicle manufacturing by offering highly modular, software-defined mobility solutions built on the dedicated E-GMP.S platform. This approach is designed to cater to diverse business needs, with Kia planning over 40 body types across the PBV range, enabling unparalleled customization for everything from logistics and ride-hailing to mobile storefronts. With a dedicated PBV plant in Hwaseong, Korea, set to churn out 150,000 units annually by 2025, Kia is not just launching vehicles; it's creating a comprehensive ecosystem complete with specialized dealerships, fleet management, and integrated services. This holistic strategy, coupled with the PV7's expansive capabilities, positions Kia to become a dominant force in the global eLCV market, targeting 250,000 PBV sales annually by 2030.
